SIM Man Simulations in the Health Suite

Former student and staff member Joe Benson visited Liverpool Life Sciences Simulation Suite this week, working with students from across the schools.

Joe used SIM man to run a scenario of a patient suffering as asthma attack, and students learnt how to assess, diagnose and treat this condition using oxygen and therapeutic agents. Sixth form students from our Medicine, Veterinary and Dentistry group also learnt how to use a laryngoscope to intubate the patient if he did not respond to initial treatment. Scenarios using SIMMAN can feel very real, and students did a great job of reassuring the patient and treating him with professionalism and respect. Joe is always a popular and engaging visitor and we look forward to welcoming him back in a few weeks to give the next stage of this patients treatment. In the meantime students will be enjoying a series of lessons designed to improve their understanding of breathing and airways management.
