UCLAN SPARK Event

It was an exciting day for students from Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio Liverpool who attended the University of Central Lancashire's SPARK event which was held at the end of last month.

Our students connected with employers offering apprenticeships in Engineering, Digital, Finance, Architecture and more.

The keynote speech by Professor Annette Weekes MBE was inspiring and informative.

One of our students Adam shared "I hadn't had much experience with interviews and this was a great way to experience them. The short time between interviews meant we had time to prepare and adapt to our environment. I did two interviews, one with WSP and another with Safran. I think that this event gave me experience that will help in a real interview whilst also giving me opportunities to get degree apprenticeships."

We asked Olivia how it has prepared her for the jobs of tomorrow, she highlighted “I had never attended a short, speed interview until the SPARK event so it was a new experience for me. Because the interviews were only 8 minutes long it helped me develop my interview skills, as I had to get my point across in a short period of time.”

Luca shared “I had an interview with several employers to do with construction such as building and quantity surveying or structural engineering.”

We asked Ewan what he enjoyed the best, and he highlighted “I enjoyed meeting the employers and seeing the campus.” In terms of how it has prepared Ewan for the jobs of tomorrow, he shared, “It has taught me how to handle the pressure in interviews and how to speak to employers.”

We would like to say a huge thank you to UCLAN for giving Adam, Olivia, Luca, Ewan, Ben, James, Mian, and Aaron the opportunity to participate in the event. Their active engagement throughout the experience has been invaluable, allowing them to bring back valuable insights and expertise.
