Miss Linkman went through an acronym of the checklist of things to do when dealing with an unconscious person. The class was then split into two groups; one completed a CPR activity led by one of our wonderful sixth-form health students, the other group worked through an asthma attack scenario on our SimMan (a sophisticated medical simulation system renowned for its ability to mimic complex medical scenarios).
The CPR session allowed them to go through the steps (the students were very good at remembering to shout for help) and then perform CPR on the models. The SimMan session allowed students to discuss the scenario and treat SimMan until he was healthy once more.
After both of these sessions concluded, they finished up by practising putting each other into the recovery position. The students were a delight from beginning to end, and we hope they do well in their next stage at secondary.
