Northern Schools Trust proudly hosted the inaugural NST Chess Tournament at North Liverpool Academy, bringing together students from our secondary schools to compete in a day of strategy, skill, and resilience. Chess has seen a surge in popularity across our schools, with many students engaging in both local and national competitions. This tournament was a testament to their dedication and the increasing importance of critical thinking in our educational ethos.

The tournament saw students from Year 7 to Year 11 battle it out in an intense yet respectful competition. With each game lasting 20 minutes, teams of five students faced off against opposing schools, their cumulative scores determining the standings. The level of play was outstanding, reflecting the commitment and preparation of all participants.

The winning team emerged from North Liverpool Academy, demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork. In second place was a talented team from Gateacre, who also showcased remarkable strategic prowess. We extend our congratulations to all players who participated, displaying both mental agility and sportsmanship throughout the day.

This event highlights the value of chess as more than just a game—it is a powerful tool for developing problem-solving skills, patience, and resilience. We look forward to seeing this competition grow in future years and to witnessing our students continue to excel in the world of competitive chess.
