They joined us so that they could assess some of our Year 12 students that were completing a practical skills assessment after completing a Lab Metalytics project. The students excelled in a range of important laboratory techniques, including making a standard solution, creating dilutions, producing a calibration curve and using it to determine the concentration of two unknown solutions. This was an open book activity, and the students could restart if needed. Our students showed outstanding practical skills and were also extremely resilient. Initially, the prize was going to be a week's work experience at Alfred H Knight for the best two students who completed the activity. However, due to the students' exceptional work, a third place was offered. The students selected were Darcy, Delight and Elisheba. They were methodical throughout the process and not afraid to start again if something wasn’t quite right. They showed real determination throughout the process as they strived to be as precise and accurate in their actions as possible.
Congratulations to all the participating students. Dr John Dyer, Project Based Learning and Innovation Lead at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School shared, "All students were wonderful, and we were very impressed with the technical and transferable skills they demonstrated."
