The poet responded to the Peterloo Massacre and channelled his fury and sadness into a poem called ‘The Mask of Anarchy’. Although the poem was not published until after Shelley’s early death at the age of 29, it would go on to inspire protests for years to come.

The Masterclass was aimed at English Literature and History A-level students; however, anyone with an interest was able to attend. Alex also discussed the entry requirements for studying English at the University of Liverpool, followed by a Q&A session where our current students asked several questions. We would like to say a big thank you to Alex and Dr Mitchell for organising such an informative session for our pupils. If you would like to find out more about Dr Alex Broadhead, then click here.
